January is all about starting off the brand new year on the right foot. We asked our staff which audiobooks they’re listening to first in 2019, and answers spanned from lengthy fantasy novels to self-care books to celebrity memoirs. It just goes to show that there’s no wrong way to kick off a year when you have the company of a good audiobook.
“I’m kicking off the year with Laura Vanderkam’s I Know How She Does It: How Successful Women Make the Most of Their Time for a little time-management support in this, the season of “Whoa I have so much I wanna do!” I very much enjoyed her book 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think and have been looking forward to listening to this one – 168 Hours was more about finding the time you actually have and are missing out on, while I Know How She Does It focuses on the author’s research into some of the problematic stories our culture believes about time, business, and “having it all” as ladies. My love of time management, devotion to data-focused research, and deep enjoyment of bucking societal expectations are all tickled by this one!”—Margaret Dunham, Social Media Manager
“I’m listening to a hodge-podge of things at the moment but am saving the bulk of my immersion-in-another-reality-seeking nerd brain for Marlon James’s Black Leopard, Red Wolf, which comes out on February 5th. While I generally dislike waiting for, well, anything, a big juicy fantasy novel that transcends genre? Yes, I will wait for that!”—Becca Stumpf, Associate Manager, Creative Marketing
“In the spirit of a fresh, new year, I’m dedicating the month of January to self-care which includes trying out self-care audiobooks (I’m typically more of a fiction listener). I want to stay motivated, get inspired, and embrace my best self so You Are a Bad Ass Every Day by Jen Sincero is my first 2019 listen.”—Taraneh DJangi, Senior Manager, Creative Marketing

“The first thing I’m listening to in 2019 is You’re on an Airplane by Parker Posey. I suppose the new year was making me feel nostalgic for some of my favorite movies like Best in Show and You’ve Got Mail!”—Nicole Morano, Publicity Manager “I finished Becoming by Michelle Obama during the first few days of the new year. Her poise and incomparable work ethic shine through in her memoir, and it was exactly what I needed to hear while heading back into the office after the long holiday break.”—Erin Murphy, Assistant, Creative Marketing
